Music Moods: Everything Must Change

Change /CHānj/ noun. the act or instance of making or becoming different. verb.  to make (someone or something) different; to become something else. transitive verb. to give a different position, course, or direction to; to undergo a modification of.

Have you ever come upon a season of life where you’ve felt vulnerable because all around you things were changing? This morning as I reflected on a current situation that I’m faced with, I couldn’t help but think of how bittersweet it is.  Change in this one area of life will undoubtedly set in motion a number of changes in many other areas.  I wouldn’t describe these changes as good or bad, simply different.  Some will surely have a positive impact on things, others may seem like more of a challenge, but one thing is for sure… things will not be the same as they were before.

People often resist change because they don’t like the way it feels.  As humans we have a need for safety and security, for consistency and reliability… we are comforted by knowing what to expect and when this is modified, it makes us uneasy.  The weight loss process is a great example of change that many of us desire and know is ultimately good for us.  We want the end result of being healthy and fit.  However, this requires diet and exercise which can be painful and requires us to give up something that is comfortable and familiar. We know that this change will produce better fruit, but it doesn’t feel good in the process, so we opt to stay away from it.

These feelings of uneasiness can be further amplified when the change or need for change is brought on in a sudden or unexpected way. But change can be a good thing and in so many cases, it is. There isn’t one person living that hasn’t hoped for change in some area of life at one point or another.  We want to be better at this, or we hope that they will stop doing that.  In those instances, we view change differently; we welcome it. Why? Because it feels easier and we already know what the end result will be (granted, of course, that things work out as we had hoped). The truth is… change can help us grow and growth brings us closer to our greatness.

The blessing for me in my situation is that the transition I’m faced with was expected.  For that reason, I’m truly at peace about it – still vulnerable – but at peace.  I believe that things will work out as they should and as always, my family and close friends have my back and that gives me strength.  This morning, I asked myself how I felt and the first thing that came to mind was “everything must change, nothing stays the same…,” which led me to think about this amazing song.  The lyrics are everything and truly capture the essence of life.  It’s not a sad song, but it is so moving… and powerful.  We must accept these seasons of change in life, I sure am.  Even in uncertainty, there lay blessings waiting for us. Yes, everything and everyone MUST change.

Oh, the joy of music! Please enjoy this beautiful and soulful rendition.  I truly hope this oldie but goodie blesses you the way that it has blessed me.

Everything must change
Nothing stays the same
Everyone must change
No one stays the same

The young become the old
And mysteries do unfold
Cause that’s the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged

There are not many things in life
You can be sure of
Except rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And hummingbirds do fly

Winter turns to spring
A wounded heart will heal
But never much too soon
Yes everything must change

The young become the old
And mysteries do unfold
Cause that’s the way of time
Nothing and no one goes unchanged

There are not many things in life
You can be sure of
Except rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And butterflies do fly

Rain comes from the clouds
Sun lights up the sky
And music
And music
Makes me cry

  1. I hope everything is okay. And I completely agree with you, change is very scary at times. And change does have a bit of a domino affect, one small change can affect a whole lot of things. I hope all the changes that come into your life will be positive and that you’ll be able to come out of them stronger than ever.
