Ahhh… the beautiful sounds of summer. Is it just me, or does it feel like summer took a vacation this year? Seriously, where I live, the weather remained cool well into the month of June. Then, the heat came a roaring in for about three weeks to a month before cooler weather and rain returned. The heat did eventually make another appearance, but, it still didn’t have that “I AM SUMMER, HEAR ME ROAR” feeling to it. Suddenly, I find myself at the end of August, getting my daughter prepared to begin a new school year and thinking to myself, I’m not sure I’m really ready for this. But, ready or not… here it comes.
I can’t believe that summer is almost over. As it winds down, I am reflecting on all that we planned to do this summer, all that we did do, all that we didn’t quite get around to doing and all of the new responsibilities that are waiting around the bend. The mental rest that comes along with summer break never quite lasts long enough for me. By the time summer hits, I typically need that down time more than ever. This summer, however, didn’t come with very much “down time” as we had a very active few months and were constantly going. It was definitely fun though.
As a family, we don’t typically think of ourselves as the outdoorsy types, but we seemed to have a blast in the great outdoors this summer. Between tackling our summer bucket list (which I will update you on in a separate post) and simply enjoying life’s surprises, our days were filled with charming experience after charming experience. The beauty of it is that we completely lived in the moment! We had a list as a guide but didn’t allow ourselves to become slaves to the list. My favorite thing about our summer adventures, was simply allowing the spirit to move us. We lived life freely yet on purpose.
Some of our adventures were big while others were very small, but all of our experiences were amazing! I feel like our family really bonded and created some beautiful memories together. Knowing that summer is coming to an end definitely makes me a little sad, but I’m grateful for all that this new season will bring.
I look forward to telling you all about our adventures in another post. Until then, what were some of your favorite moments this summer? Drop me a line in the comments section, I can’t wait to hear all about it!
