15 Points of Gratitude

BonhoefferWhat an insanely busy life, it seems. WHY, WHY, WHY?  I won’t complain though, because it means that I am loved and living – and that, my friends, is a good thing! The many activities and responsibilities of life do tend to get overwhelming at times; I’ll be the first to admit it. But I’m grateful that in those times, I have a great support system to call upon. That doesn’t necessarily make things less hectic, it just makes me better able to cope.

So, where have I been (yet AGAIN)? Living, of course, and raising my family. I hope that you all had a very happy Thanksgiving! I certainly did. I did a bit of traveling with the kids and I’m still exhausted, but trying to recover.  It’s been rough though, I’m already days late on getting Christmas decorations up (we usually do it the day after Thanksgiving – but clearly, that didn’t happen). I suppose I’ll get there eventually, I am simply having the hardest time getting rested.

At any rate, this is my favorite time of the year and I’m definitely looking forward to the holiday season. I had hoped to be able to participate in “30 Days of Thanksgiving” posts here at Pink, Candy & Stilettos for the month of November, but the time just got away from me. I still love the idea of sharing things that I am grateful for, so I’ve decided to simply reduce it all to one post instead. I realize that Thanksgiving has already passed, however… my blog, my rules and I’m doing it.  ;-)

So, in honor of the Holiday Season, here are my 15 Points of Gratitude… Happy Holidays!

  1. God: I’m grateful to God for life, health, strength and everything in between.  All of the fine details, His saving grace and all of the times that He saved my life when I didn’t even know it.

  2. Family: I’m grateful for a loving supportive family, extended family, family in-law and spiritual family. You don’t get to choose your family, but how amazing is it to know that you were blessed with wonderful people to call your kin.  Family can certainly be taken for granted. I appreciate mine… flaws and all.

  3. Friendship: I’m grateful for amazing friends.  Unlike family, you do get to choose your friends. I have been so blessed over the years with amazing, loyal, fun, considerate, giving friends to call my own. Friendship means a lot to me and I’m so glad to have beautiful people in my life to call friends.

  4. Girlfriends: I’m particularly grateful for my special group of close girlfriends who always come through for me. I appreciate that we are able to be there for one another in so many different ways and that our relationships are more like sisters than friends. Moreover, I’m so happy that we have healthy relationships and don’t treat each other poorly. There’s no talking behind each other’s backs, no insane cat fights like those that you see on reality TV and when we haven’t spoken for a while, we always pick up right where we left off. It’s not forced, it’s a perfect fit.

  5. Education: For what it’s worth, I appreciate it. In a down economy, some are led to question its value, but one thing’s for certain, no one can take this away from you.

  6. Random Phone Calls (from someone who you care about, of course): I simply love receiving random, unexpected phone calls from friends and family. Today, communication seems so stale and impersonal.  Instead of calling people, we communicate by text, post, inbox message, tweet or email – anything but an actual phone call.  God forbid, we pick up the phone and listen to the sound of someone’s voice. But I love receiving a phone call that breaks the mold. It keeps me smiling for hours.

  7. Children: I’m so grateful for my children and all the children in my life because they have the amazing ability to bring out the very best in you. Children make you creative, they cause you to use your imagination, they believe in magic so they help you to create it, they inspire you to keep trying when you want to give up and you can always count on them to make you smile. Though they are hard work, children are amazing!

  8. Pictures: I’m grateful for pictures, though people use them for all types of things these days, many of which aren’t great, I love the ability to capture a moment in time forever. Now more than ever, I realize that tomorrow isn’t promised and so, it’s a blessing to be able to remember yesterday.

  9. Books: Who doesn’t love a good book? Books are so fantastic whether reading for entertainment or for study. I love the ability to get lost in the pages of a good book.

  10. Makeup: Oh how I am grateful for makeup! I love being able to accentuate my natural beauty… make pretty things stand out. But I must admit that I LOVE one product in particular – one that I only discovered about a year ago, if that – concealer! How many ways I appreciate you concealer… let me count the ways. No seriously, I don’t get a lot of sleep these days and some days it really shows. I’m grateful for the ability to throw on a little concealer when I need it so that I can remain as fresh-faced as possible, even when I’ve had little to no sleep. Which brings me to my next point…

  11. Sleep: I’m grateful for sleep because it is so difficult for me to come by these days.

  12. Music: I’m grateful for music because it is therapeutic, soothing, exciting, beautiful, fun, smart and it has the ability to take you back to a place in time. Music touches me in so many ways and I’m so grateful to have it.

  13. Creativity: I’m grateful for creativity and the ability to express myself in numerous ways. I thank God for cultivating that part of me… it’s one of the things that I admire most about myself.

  14. Little things that make me smile: Wine, hugs, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, the color pink, purses and shoes: I don’t need to explain that one… do I?

  15. Clarity & Perspective: I thank God for clarity and perspective. I’ve had a few things happen in my life that really put some things into perspective for me and made me sit back and smell the coffee. As a result, I’ve focused in on some of the things and people who really matter in my life. I think it’s better that way and I am truly grateful.
